My gg-grandparents Wm. Carroll Byrd and Margaret Elizabeth Jackson Byrd moved from the Calloway Co. KY/Stewart Co. TN area to Missouri ~1849. They lived near Brunot in SE Iron (then Wayne) County.

Family history states that they lost all their livestock, etc. to foraging Federal soldiers and were unable to make payments on their farm, so they moved to Randolph Co. AR ("The Land of Opportunity" as my grandpa put it).

In the Ironton courthouse, I found Iron Co. MO tax records indicating that Wm. C. Byrd was arrears in his tax payments for the years 1861-65. He and Margaret apparently sold their land to a certain D.W.(?) Shaver for one dollar in 1861, then bought it back for the same one dollar, then immediately sold it to a certain Roberts in March, 1863.

There is a hiatus in documents until Dec. 1868 when Wm. C. marries his second wife, Chloe Davis Looney in Walnut Hills, Randolph Co. AR.

Margaret E.'s brother, William A. Jackson lived SSW of Patterson, Wayne Co. MO. Have often wondered if his sister and her family moved in with her brother after March, 1863....?????

William A. Jackson left Missouri and returned to Calloway Co. KY in the 1870s - a result of his serving in Clardy's Battalion MO Cavalry?????? He is buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery near Murray, Calloway Co. KY.
