Thank you for this latest information about Captain Benjamin Lee Bowman and his family. I am reluctant to specify this is the gentleman who accompanied Hildebrand to help kill that militiaman. I simply have no proof, and I don't wish to name this man simply because his surname is the same as the man Hildebrand named and he lived in the same region. It's just too thin. Oh, I could use weasel words like "probably" "perhaps" "maybe" or the like, but the evidence has to be stronger that what I have in this instance.
Further, as a genealogy researcher myself, I am aware that any of the people I name in my books could attract the attention of descendants concerned that I am careful with the facts about their ancestors. I don't take that lightly. I have seen some of my own ancestors' records and lines mangled by hasty conclusions.
