Thanks for the comments. I, too, am interested in the Civil War era information but, as you know, it easily bleeds into post-war society. Local sentiments died hard after the war. The local book here in Phelps County, Missouri dealing with the Civil War is The Bushwacker written by George Clinton Arthur about "Bushwacker" Bill Wilson. It is a compilation of personal stories and narratives by Arthur's family and neighbors which I am finding deal with more postwar activities than wartime events. Still, it provides and interesting insight to the local characters and atrocities which developed here during and after the war. Thanks once again for the comments.
