Richard Boze, aka Devil Dick Boze was married to Mary Crabtree and lived at the Boze Mill in Oregon County, Mo. Richard had three children and joined the confederacy after watching the torture of his brother, Josiah. Richard joined Captain Todd's men and served in much of the Kansas/Missouri border war. Jeptha Bowles (my line) was a friend to Richard and a fellow guerilla. Jeptha Bowles was killed in 1863. My GGGG Grandfather, William Lowry Sr of Ripley County, Mo died at the Boze Mill in Oregon county and was buried there under a triangle shaped stone bearing the name and date of 09/29/64. William Jr was pressed into service with other former confederates to track down "guerillas" and was with the party that lynched or beat or both Richard Boze to death in Alton. John Lowry, William Sr's grandson was hung in the front yard of William Jr's for his involvement and support of Richard Boze and other rebels by Kansas Jay Hawkers. The Lowry family took in Mary Boze for a couple of years until their move to Oklahoma. I know not what happened to Mary Boze except that she is listed in the 1880 census as living in Oregon county with her three children. The Boze Mill was stolen by carpet baggers and the land divided among speculators...it is my understanding that it is still in the hands of the federal government.
