The Missouri in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Civil War Vets at Denlow Cemetery

John, I can't thank you enough for the work you've put into this project. I will tell you of the two that I found which I am 90% sure are ones we are looking for. First: Elias C. Vancil, I located a Civil War record for Elias C. Vancil online. Evan's Independent Co. Illinois Cavalry. Egyptian Guards. Union side. I then located the death certification for a Elias C. Vancil in Missouri. It shows place of birth as Illinois. He died in Douglas County, Mo. Cass Twsp. in 1915. He was a widower. His wife was Adaline. He is also listed in the 1910 census living in Illinois. The military record online does not give a date of birth. (or not the one I ran across), but I'd say this is most likely the same person????

Then there is Elijah Martin: I found a record online, Private in Capt. Evans' Indpt. Co., Illinois Calvary "Egyptian Guards" A located a pension record for his widow Nancy J. According to other records I viewed, this Martin's wife's name was Nancy Jane. I feel strongly that this is probably our Elijah Martin ?????
