Without treading into what should be on the news and views board, yes it does sound very 21st century. And yes the "mainstream media" of its day is very well documented in retrospect to be biased generally along geographic and party lines. I guess what bothers me is sometime in the interim this notion that the media shouldn't be biased or isn't biased took hold. History really doesn't support that condition very well. Perhaps we would all be better served if we just admitted that the purveyors of news get to choose what is news, as true in 1856 as it is in 2007.
