Missouri Confederates at Arlington

There is a section of Arlington National Cemetery dedicated to the burial of Confederate soldiers. A large and impressive monument overlooks the section.

Missouri Confederates buried in the section include the following:

Lt. Henry Hungerford Marmaduke, CS Navy. He was the brother of Major General John S. Marmaduke.

Capt. John M. Hickey, 2nd & 6th Missouri Infantry. 1st Missouri Brigade. Wounded numerous times, he lost a leg at Franklin, Tenn. (His wife occupies the same grave.)

Capt. William T. Thompson, 8th Missouri Cavalry Regiment. Marmaduke's Brigade. He was the nephew of Brig. Gen. M. Jeff Thompson.

Both Marmaduke and Hickey are buried at the base of the monument, along with the monument's designer, Moses Ezekiel, and Brig. Gen. Marcus J. Wright.
