Ok Don this is where I went into left field....

I concur with what you say that John Wigginton should have been married to Mary Ann Fristoe.... I found one 2nd hand source to provence that marriage under that name. However I also have found in the Chariton County Marriage records, Mary Anne Gullet/Gillet marrying our John Wigginton on 28 Feb 1832 with the ceremony being performed by none other than Thomas Fristoe.

Ellsberry, Elizabeth Prather, compiler. Marriage Records of Chariton County, Missouri Courthouse Located in Keytesville, Missouri 1821-1852. Chillicothe, MO, USA: Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry, c1965

So who is Mary Anne? Perhaps this was a second marriage?

I've found scads of information on the internet making Mary Anne Fristoe, Bud Wigginton's mom but it all comes back to the same dubious source / McCorkle's claim. Now I have no reason to think McCorkle had any reason to fabricate the issue, but I get back to the original problem, source documentation indicates there is more to this story than first meets the eye.
