I'm pretty sure Milton T is another son of James, brother to Clifton. I've found another history / biography published 1888 that coroborates the earlier one you found.

So I guess I'll have to edit my biography of Clifton above to include his and James P. sojurn to California to mine for gold.

I think Milton as the only one with progeny is pretty well confirmed.

I've a brother in Columbia MO who I'll try to talk into running up to Howard Co and looking at James will to see if it mentions Milton. That would probally ice it.

I'll try to push this info out to the web somehow with source documents after all this work.

Thanks for all the help, I suspect we've filled in a bit of the jig saw puzzle. Now Bruce N can do his magic and tell us what Clifton really did during the war!
