Yes, poor Lt Cawthorn had survived a serious gunshot wound on July 28th, 1864 during the Atlanta Campaign only to again fall from another wound, this time at Nashville, on December 15th. He expired on the 17th and was buried at Franklin, as that was where his unit was at the time. They must have entrusted his burial with locals as they had a quick fight with the Federals there on the morning of December 17th before making a hasty retreat.
