Re: Galvanized Yankees
In Response To: Galvanized Yankees ()

Hugh, it was very kind of you to send me such a detailed response to my question. Since you have noted that the Naval experience might have come first, it may now make sense. I just never heard that part, but if it were just "routine" I probably would not have. I did hear how deprived the situation was out West and it was a rather long service before he homesteaded in Minnesota. He had been wounded and had a problem with that all his life.

What is the difference in the Booth records and the CMSR? I thought it was the same thing? How would I get that? Would that include the Union service?

I will certainly purchase "The Galvanized Yankees" and see if I can glean any information from that. Unfortunately, I think I have started too late for hard information from the family as my parents are dead and no living Aunts and Uncles on that side. Hindesight is great. My children are the ones who are pressuring me to find out about this particular relative. I myself am now somewhat obsessed about it.

Again, I thank you for your help and will let you know if I find anything else. By-the-way, I did go on the National Park Service site and did not see his name, but some were not posted.

Patti
