Edward G. Randolph, a Mexican War veteran whom Taylor described as a “well-instructed officer for the time.” A private in the Ninth considered Randolph “an excellent disciplinarian and drill-master, and to him the regiment owed all its knowledge of tactics and the greater part of its efficiency.”(9)

9th Louisiana Infantry Regiment
April 24, 1862 The regiment reorganized for the duration of the war. Colonel Randolph, Lt. Colonel Walker and Major Kavanaugh were removed. Captain Leroy A. Stafford of company B was elected colonel, Captain William R. Peck of Company E lieutenant colonel and Captain Henry L.N. Williams of Company F major.
