The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Hello, Mr. Miller:

I'm sure there are some people working on landmarks and historical sites of New Orleans who can put every little clue to good use in their attempts to reconstruct old New Orleans' "skyline."

I have had the pleasure to correspond with Mr. Ed Miller, an old school gentleman who has studied Civil War arms, armaments, metallurgy, and associated fields for at least 50 years. I don't know the full extent of his knowledge, his library of weapons, nor his capabilities, but I do know he is an amazing fellow. I also know that he and his son were involved in the carriage work on the naval gun from the C.S.S. Alabama that is on display at Mobile, AL. I believe they forged their own iron and made every weld without modern equipment.

It is a pleasure to see you on the boards, Sir. I hope you become a regular poster, as there are often questions in your field.

Kind Regards,
Hoyt Cagle
