George, thanks for the links. They reinforce what I have found; the story of her tearing down the fence at First Manassas is really what prompted my question. My problem is that it does not appear that Rooney (or some of the other Louisiana vivandieres mentioned in the links) could have served at First Manassas as they claim because the regiments they are identified with were not at the battle. In Rooney's case, the 15th Louisiana was not organized until more than a year afterwards. It was formed by combining the 3rd Louisiana Battalion and St. Paul's Foot Rifles in August 1862. The only company within those units that was at First Manassas was the Catahoula Guerrillas when it was part of Wheat's Battalion. Wheat's Battalion, of course, is well documented but I have never seen her name associated with it. I'm pretty sure there was a Rose Rooney vivandiere but am not at all certain with which regiment she actually served.
