Dr. Henry Robertson Guest Speaker
At Young-Sanders Center

Dr. Henry Robertson will be the guest speaker for the Young-Sanders Center for the Study of the War Between the States in Louisiana on Saturday June 25, 2016 at 1:30 pm in Franklin, Louisiana. He will speak on his new publication entitled “The Red River Campaign and Its Toll, 69 Bloody Days in Louisiana, March-May 1864.”

Dr. Henry Robertson is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He attended Christ Church Episcopal School and then went off to study history at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. He received a BA in history after only three years of study, graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1990, and then moved to Louisiana for graduate school. He has been in Louisiana for 25 years and he tells me that living in this state is an education in and of itself. At LSU in Baton Rouge, he studied Southern History and the Civil War with Dr. William J. Cooper and Charles Royster.

He earned the MA in history and then a Ph.D. in history from LSU in 1997. His first academic job was at LSU-Alexandria. He taught history and geography there from 1998 to 2006. Since 2006 he has been at Louisiana College where he has taught, been chair of the Division of History and Political Science for 8 years, and currently is associate professor of history and coordinator of institutional effectiveness. He attends Calvary Baptist Church, is married to Amy, and has two children, William and Adeline.

Henry has published numerous articles in academic journals, made a number of public presentations, and his first book "In the Habit of Acting Together:" the Emergence of the Whig Party in Louisiana, 1828-1840 was published by the Center for Louisiana Studies now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press and it came out in 2007.

He has appeared as an expert on the television show “Cajun Pawn Stars” History Channel for three on-air episodes in 2012. Filmed 7 total.

His current book “The Red River Campaign and Its Toll 69 Bloody Days in Louisiana March-May 1864” was published by McFarland Press in March.

The Young-Sanders Center is located at 701 Teche Drive in Franklin, Louisiana one block from the St. Mary Parish Court House. Dr. Robertson’s lecture will begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday June 25, 2016. His book will be available for purchase. The lecture is open to the general public. Refreshments will be served.
