The reason finding this location was important to me was because in 1865 General Robert A Cameron has the types of skiff's being built at Offutt's Mill issued to the 1st La. Cav. Co k for patrol purposes. My g grandfather was pvt. Basile Sance, Co. k who eventually drew a pension from his time served during the Civil War.' Sance 'was a mis- understanding concerning the way he signed his name . In Azaus,France it was Saux, after the Civil War it became Seaux. They used this type of skiff because of their shallow draft, and because of the flood of 1865 around the Lafourche Region. It nice to know where the idea came from.
