Pointe Coupee Casualties

Perhaps the following information has been posted previously, or at least in part.

A letter sent from Ft. Pemberton, printed in the Memphis Daily Appeal, Wednesday, 1 April, 1863, Vol. 14, No. 60. Page 1 col. 2, contains a short list of casualties of Co. B Pointe Coupee artillery.

"Fight at Greenwood.

We make the following extract from a letter delayed on the route from Greenwood, which should have reached us several days ago."

"The Whitworth gun, which did so much execution was manned by company B, Pointe Coupee artillery. Lieutenant Wall, who was in command, and nine men, were wounded by shell and the explosion of one of our own magazines. Though as soon as they were removed another detachment from the same battery rushed to fill the vacancy occasioned. All credit is due to officers and men of company B, Pointe Coupee artillery, for they acted like old hands at the business, though it was their first attempt at heavy artillery. Every man present did his duty, and a more determined set of men I never saw."

"The names of the wounded of the Pointe Coupee artillery are [:] Henry Jones, leg amputated ; John George, leg broken and badly bruised ; B. T. McKittrick, John Evans, J. M. Foster, W. Slocomb, badly bruised."
