Re: Choctaw Bayou-Red River Campaign

Col George D Robinson 97th Colored 3rd Engs. Corps d' Afrique states on on 5.14 at 10 p.m. I was ordered to Gen. Grover with my command and the pontoon bridge. I reported to him at Snaggy Point at an abandoned wagon road leading to Marksville.I was ordered by Grover to move forward on the following morning(5.15) with a sufficent force to repair the road to Choctaw Bayou,4 miles in distance, and to lay the pontoon across Bayou Choctaw...the bridge was laid and the approaches completed by 10 a.m.. The trains arrived at 12 p.m. (5.15) .Capt. Chamberlain picked up the pontoon when the last troop passed (5.16) the following morning at 4 a.m.
From Egg Bend this is the Choctaw Bayou Bayou many Federal regiments reached, not the Choctaw Bayou east of present day 5th Ward,La.
