Fredericke Reinicke or Reinecke 22nd La Cons.

Searching for a friend. His anscestor was Fredericke Reinicke. This gentleman was a German immigrant arriving in New Orleans prior to 1860. His family knew of his role in some type of La. Guard unit, but the interesting thing about him is that his family has his rifle (Fed. Springfield) and his sword. As a private that is odd. This gentleman most likely joined the 4th European Brigade in New Orleans (F. Reinicke Private Co. C). My understanding is they were a group of un-naturalized men formed as a unit to protect the city. There is also a T. F. Reinicke (also Reinecke) 1st Sgt/2nd Lt. Co. C. in the 22nd Consolidated La. Inf. Probably the same man since an officer would have a sword. It is also possible that he may have been in the 23rd LA. and paroled at Vicksburg. (Co. C 22nd Cons. La. Inf. was formed from the old 23rd La) . The 22nd was formed from several units and served in artillery units around Mobile until Surrender.
