Bird Plantation-Pierce Landing,Red River Campaign

If I'm not misinformed I believe Pierce Landing was the Landing in which U.S.S. John Warner was captured.
Bird Plantation...The events of that day 5.14.64 are as follows-
162,165,173 n.y. inf
25 n.y. art.
1st vermont
depart Osborne's at 5:30 a.m. and head to within 6 miles of Cheneyville and encamp at Birds Plantation (hwy 457 of today ?)
Gen. William Steele C.S.A. at Bayou Lamourie states that he sent 2 regiments to check on the Union forces around Moreland and found that they had used a crossroad that goes 4 miles and reaches the road that follows the Red River on the West side.He pursues skirmishing their rear...
George Drake U.S. a.a.g. has given orders to Gen. A.J. Smith (presumably at Morelands) to join Gen. Emory at Wilsons Landing immediately using the best route possible.
Gen. Emory clearly states 5.14. , 10 miles from Alexandria that the road that Smith will come in from is 1/2 mile to my front.
In the haste of General Banks retreat these 3 Infantry and 3 Artillery units were diverted from the major objective. Was it to cover Gen. A.J. Smiths route to Wilsons landing, possiby to construct / destroy the bridges that Smith needed to cross, then destroy to prevent Steele from engaging Smith ? I believe this Hwy ( if this roadway was even around then) crosses 3 Bayous and it may not go as far down to be considered 6 miles from Cheneyville, but, in the chaos this Union Force had a definate reason for being sent there.I don't know where Birds is or the purpose of their mission. This Union force is at Marksville the following day.
Appreciate any help
