My favorite Kirby Smith versus Richard Taylor book is "A Crisis In Confederate Command" by Jeffery Prushankin published by LSU Press in 2005. However, I am still searching for that book which provides a fair but detailed assessment of Smith's performance of his command duties and responsibilities of the overall Trans-Mississippi Department, not one focusing on one particular state or military campaign.
