However, in my copy of Webster’s work, I annotated Lieut. M. C. Leak, Company H. I do not have the source of this correction, nor do I find a record of his death. There is no man by the name Lace in their records. Records of the 17th Louisiana are quite sparse.

Enlisted on 9/1/1861 as a 1st Lieutenant.
On 9/1/1861 he was commissioned into "H" Co. LA 17th Infantry
(date and method of discharge not given)

The company was re-organized on May 21st, 1862, at Edwards, Mississippi, electing as officers, G. M. Kilgore, Captain; M. C. Leake, 1st Lieutenant. . . .

First Lieutenant Leake, who was wounded on May 30th, and died on June 5th, 1863.
