This was the Section 3 of the 14th Amendment which
“ . . . provided that those who had engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the United States . . . were disqualified from holding any office, civil, or military, state or Federal.”

C, Crescent Rifles), 7th Regiment Louisiana Volunteers,* enlisted May 22, 1861 at New Orleans by Captain Gilman for the war, on recruiting service April 11, 1862, wounded at the Battle of Chantilly (2nd Manassas), September 1, 1862, leg amputated, thigh, thereafter unfit for field service, admitted General Hospital, Charlottesville, VA. November 6, 1862, gunshot wound, furloughed July 7, 1863, re-admitted September 22, 1863, furloughed October 19, 1863, re-admitted November 6, 1863, gunshot wound, paid January 30, 1865 for the months of Nov/Dec, 1864, no further records
