Check out Don Frazier's book "Fire in the Cane Field, The Federal Invasion of Louisiana and Texas, January 1861-January 1863" published by State House Press, Buffalo Gap, TX in 2009. Excellent narrative with maps that were made using GPS on site with local historians and archeologist to pinpoint the action. Should answer any questions you have about the battle of Labadieville, unit positions, and locations of the Brule's in the Lafourche District. Brule meaning a place with a small cluster of houses with maybe a store. It usually was located on the backside of planted fields and where the swamps began.
