Here is some basic information. Please cite me as the source if you use it in your paper.

Siege Train Battalion MAJOR. Richard M. Venable, transferred; Paul T. Dismukes (acting). Company C, Crescent Artillery Company A (Orleans). T. H. Hutton. Company D, 3rd Company, 8th Louisiana Heavy Artillery Battalion (St. Landry). Thomas N. McCrory. Company E, 2nd Louisiana Field Battery (Avoyelles and Pointe Coupee). Samuel M. Thomas. Company ?, Company D, 1st Texas Heavy Artillery Regiment. Charles M. Mason. Company ?, 2nd Arkansas Field Battery (transferred to the Reserve Battalion prior to November 19, 1864). William Hart. Company ?, Company A, 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery Regiment (added prior to November 19, 1864). Paul T. Dismukes.
This battalion came into existence in the fall of 1864, certainly by September 30. The companies manned heavy artillery pieces in fortifications around Alexandria and Pineville, some of which were still under construction. Records concerning the battalion are extremely sketchy, but it had responsibility for the artillery pieces located in Fort Buhlow and Fort Randolph near Pineville until the end of the war.
