Re: Louisiana skull auction - burial site
In Response To: Louisiana skull auction ()

Knowing the location of the burial would at least tell us the soldier's brigade. Based on recorded burials, the primary hospital for Nicholls' brigade (Col. J. M. Williams commanding) was evidently established at the Henry Monfort farm (the house and barn are still standing) on the Hunterstown Road. The David Stewart farm was also used. The George Wolf farm may have served as the forward field hospital for this brigade. The wounded of Hays' brigade were more scattered. A significant number were taken to the John Crist farm. Others went to hospitals established on the farms of Elizabeth Wible, David Stewart, William Douglas, Henry Wantz, David Shriver, and George Spangler (which was the Union Eleventh Corps hospital). This information was assembled by the late author Greg Coco.
