I was not referring to a protective breast plate but the brass breast plate in the image on Fox News is clearly a pelican device and was likely worn on the cartridge box strap or on the cartridge box itself. Odd that a La soldier would still be sporting one of them by July 63. We have a similar if not exact oval one like that at Camp Moore. I have seen many reproductions.
