Re: Capt, E.J. Hall 1st. La.Cav.

A rather convulated tale:

E. J. Hall, Private, Company C, 1st Battalion South Carolina Sharp Shooters, enlisted April 5, 1862 at Charleston by Capt. Millhouse for the war, recorded on the May/June, 1863 muster roll as present, transferred from Company I, 22nd Regiment S. C. V. May 16, 1863, recorded as absent without leave since August 3, 1863 on the July/August, 1863* muster roll with later comment, “Since reported,” no further records

* There are no subsequent Company C muster rolls found in the records

The 1st Battalion South Carolina Sharp Shooters, Companies A to C, was organized about June, 1862, of men transferred from various other organizations. It was consolidated with the 27th Regiment South Carolina Infantry, by S. O. No. 198, Dept. S. C., Ga. and Fla., dated September 30, 1863, this company becoming Company G of that regiment

……………….

Williams for the war, absent without leave from August 3 to September 16, 1863, recorded on the Nov/Dec, 1863 muster roll as absent, in General Hospital at Charleston, remaining so through February, 1864, transferred to Company F, 22nd S.
