Louisiana soldier search

I am attempting to locate any Confederate service records for James Anderson. Because of my lack of information for this side of the family I have been unsuccessful, this being such a common name.
The information I do have is this.
James Anderson (no known middle initial) was born in Louisiana about 1812-1813. He resided in Calcasieu Parish near Cameron at Johnson's Bayou. His wife's name was Sara. His son Isac, my great grandfather who was 8 at the time of The Battle of Sabine Pass, told my dad he could hear the cannons from his house. His father James was not home and may have been involved in this action.
I find it hard to accept that James, about age 48 when the war started, would not have served at some level but Louisiana records are void of much needed information.
Any help narrowing my search would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
SW
