150th Anniversary Bayou Bourbeau

Today, Nov. 3, is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bayou in South Louisiana near Opelousas. It was the largest battle in the Great Texas Overland Expedition in the fall of 1863. The goal for the Federals was to invade Texas via Southwest Louisiana. The expedition was a major failure for the Feds, following their failure at Sabine Pass in September and led up to the Red River Campaign, another failure. There were some seriously tough Texas and Louisiana Confederates in South Louisiana. For more information, I posted an excerpt from J.P. Blessington's Campaigns of Walker's Texas Division on my personal blog at http://thesouthsdefender.blogspot.com/2013/11/150-years-ago-battle-of-bayou-bourbeau.html.
