Well, I really have been deficient. J Tippitt appears on the 1870 census of Claiborne Parish LA, age 23, post office Lisbon. In his household are wife Adelia and son Percy, just as cited in several family trees. Widow Adelia Tippitt and son Percy Tippitt can be found on the 1900 Texas census. We can confirm that he lived after the Civil War and moved to Texas. The cemetery record mentions John L Tippitt, MD. If the family was reasonably well-to-do, it may have disqualified an application for pension relief. Otherwise, if this man was supposed to have enlisted during the Civil War, there should be a Texas pension application in his name.
