Re: 1862 Co D, 28 Louisiana Infantry @ Franklin, M

Mark, Louisiana is correct. The 28th never served in Mississippi--the Mississippi bottoms you mention were also in Louisiana. After being mustered into service the regiment was stationed in the swamps of northeast Louisiana for awhile. Tippet was probably killed on April 14, 1863, at the Battle of Irish Bend, which was very near Franklin, La. I checked Booth's Records and the only Tippets (of any spelling) I see for the 28th Louisiana are listed below.

Tipett, Simeon R., Pvt. Co. H, 28th (Gray's) La. Inf. En. Monroe, La., May 8, 1862. Roll July
and Aug., 1863, Detailed to make shoes at Sparta, La. Roll of Prisoners of War, C. S. A.,
Paroled Monroe, La., June 16, 1865. Res. Bienville Par., La.

Tipett, William J., Pvt. Co. H, 28th (Gray's) La. Inf. Roll dated May 8, 1862 (only Roll on
which borne), En. Monroe, La., May 8, 1862.

Tippit, Andrew J., Sergt. Co. D, 28th (Gray's) La. Inf. Roll dated May 15, 1862 (only Roll on
which borne), En. Monroe, La., May 11, 186-. Present or absent not stated on Roll.
