The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

By the Numbers

No real location fo this question on this forum (history-sites.com), BUT, have found that the Louisiana boys tend to be a bit 'smarter' that others on other forums, so will try here.

We know that in the Confederate Army (ANV is my reference point) Corps were numbered (i.e. II Corps (Jackson/Ewell/Early). We know that at least in the Brigades were also numbered (i.e. 8th Brigade (1st La Brigade Taylor/Hays/etc). Were divisions also similarly numbered Like there were in the Federal Army? (i.e., 1st Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Division, XXXX Corps, Army of Dispare, as an example).

Have been trying to find out if the Division(s) the 1st La Brigade (Taylor/Hays/etc) was assigned to during its time with the ANV/AotV (Army of the Valley, Early 1864. I think also Jackson's Command in '62 had a similar name) had a number. And what it was.

Am keen on finding the Divisional Number for Gordon's Division, which was part of the Army of the Valley (Jubal Early commanding) in mid-1864. If not will use the number assigned during times with the ANV (62-65, less time in the Valley Commands)

Thanks. Do hope this makes sense in how I wrote it.
