Just a thought... in the terminology of the day, wagon trains were often referred to as just "trains." I don't know but I would imagine a considerable amount of Confederate military supplies were surrenderd at Mansfield and with Alexandria being a major headquarters for the occupation forces, I would think that a "train" would have been organized to carry what was not destroyed down there. He may have been referring to that and having received his parole may have been allowed to work his way (as a teamster possibly?) back home with them.

Also, a slight correction to Terry's comments, when the brigade marched north to Arkansas the Consolidated remained behind in Alexandria (probably where DeVillier joined them), later going into garrison at Shreveport. They later returned to Alexandria and the rest of the brigade joined them there.
