I think the most confusing part is his death date. As you said Booth’s record states his death was in 1862, but his CMSR says he died Mar 29, 1863. This is probably a mistake on Booth’s part. At the time of his death his regiment was in Tennessee. There was a large Confederate hospital in Okalona and if you google that, you will see that many sick and wounded from the fighting in TN were sent there. So it makes since that he is buried there. It would be natural to think that he died in N.O. if it was in 62 because the regiment had just formed there and had not deployed yet. Given that he enlisted in Monroe, I would suppose that he was assigned to the 25th as they were traveling north to Corinth.
