Depending on their location when they recieved orders to proceed to Louisiana would depend on their exact route. From Hempstead, the route was through Montgomery, Waverly, Coldspring, Livingston, Woodville, and San Augustine. At this point the earlier regiments proceeded through Milam to Sabinetown and then Many, La. After the Federals left Alexandria, the route through Many was cut off. The remainder of the regiments were rerouted from San Augustine through Shelbyville, the ferry at Logansport, and to Mansfield. There may have been some variations to this route. Robert Williams of the 4th Tx Cav kept a diary of his trip and detailed this route.
