Michele

I do have some information on Bailie P L Vinson which I am willing to share. If you e-mail me at don.gayle@frontier.com, I will e-mail you what I have electronically. I may have to mail you a few items (USPS or UPS). My file on Vinson is about 3/4 of an inch in thickness. In his "Confederate Service Records (CSR)" there are two or three signed documents and he spelled it Bailie in all of these documents. After leaving the 11th LA, after a court martial event in which he was cleared, he joined Co. G of the 2nd Louisiana Cavalry as a private. In the 2nd LA Cavalry records for Co. G, he is initially listed as Pvt. Bailey Vincent. He was very quickly promoted to Captain, in command of Co. G of the 2nd LA Cav. There are documents in the OR which he signed as "Capt. Commanding Co. G, 2nd La Cav." With the promotion of Joseph L. Brent to Brigadier General (by Gen. E.Kirby Smith), most of the Louisiana cavalry units were merged into a cavalry brigade with Brig. Gen. Brent in command. I believe this occurred in October of 1864.

Although I haven't found an evidence trail of sufficient credibility, it appears that Brent approved the conversion of a portion of the cavalry brigade into Vinson's Scouts, but operating as an independent unit of Brent's Cavalry Brigade. Most of the Vinson's Scouts appeared to have been from the Bayou Teche area.

Hope this helps
