End of Campaign Uniforms

Question, am aware that at the beginning of a campaign (ie Early's invasion of north, Sherman's march to sea, etc) those going on campaign would be re-fitted to have as complete kit (new uniforms, rifles, shoes, etc) as possible.

Has anyone come across what they gear soldiers were wearing at the end of the campaign? Would like to know what they might be wearing, carrying, etc.

Am trying to get an idea as it relates to the 2nd Louisiana Infantry Regiment (US) or other Union Infantry Unit what it may looked like when it finished up the Red River Campaign (March/May '64). Was it still wearing 'standard' Union uniforms (blue jacket/pants) or had they done some scrounging (sp?) and have a smattering of civilian pants, jackets, and the like as their Union uniforms and gear fell apart, got lost, dropped as they ran away, err retreated, etc?

I don't think there is specific book on this subject (uniforms at end of campaign), but perhaps there might be text in other books (history of a Union unit, Red River Campaign, etc) where this might have been discussed. If I can't find info on the Red River Campaign, could use other Union campaigns as a point of reference (Sherman's March to Sea, Greison's Raid, etc).

If I could get some direction as to those books, articles, stories, etc that this information may be found, it would be appreciated. I am in South California and such materials are hard to find. Also, a summary of one's past readings or guesses as to what a Union unit might look like would also be appreciated.

I am going to put this in the Arms and Equipment forum site too, so if possible could you provide response there too?

Thanks.
