I can't help you with the unit you're interested in, for which lack, I apoligize.

However, if the book you referenced (the VB reminiscence) mentions anything about a camel (seriously), please let me know so I can buy the book.

The 43rd MS Infantry ("the Camel Regiment") was the only unit -- north or south -- that actually had a camel in service.

It was purposely assassinated by Yankee sharpshooters during the Siege of Vicksbug.
