Rich: Thanks, again! The info was really, well, "rich," if you'll pardon the pun! Firemen wore two distinct hats -- one for parades ("fireman's parade hat") and one to actually work the fires with ("fireman's hat"), the latter usually having the elongated "tail" to keep fire and ash from falling down their backs. I've choosen to use the parade hat for my uniform, because it was these hats that were the "dress" hats of a fire company, as it were. Thanks, again, for the info, and, yeah, I don't think I'll be too hard to spot in that violet frock and white top hat! -- Jim H.
