Powell A. "Pat" Casey's "Encyclopedia of Forts, Posts, Named Camps and Other Military Installations in Louisiana, 1781- 1981" has the following entry for your Camp Butler (there were others in other areas at different time periods):
Butler, Camp (CW). Vol. II of Booth's "Records" makes reference to units of the 2nd La. Cavalry (Confederate) having been at Camp Butler in July and August 1862 and in May and August 1862 but the location of the camp is not known. Returns of the 2nd La. Cavalry indicate that Camp Butler may have been in or near Natchitoches in August of a year uncertain.
Unfortunately, that is the complete entry there. I am looking for other sources.
