Since there never was a 17th Louisiana serving in the Virginia theater, it would have to be either the 7th Louisiana or just a complete error. I have never seen anything to indicate any of the Tiger regiments lost a flag at Spotsylvania, but if any did it more likely would have been the 1st, 10th, 14th, or 15th Louisiana of the 2nd Brigade, which was overrun and largely captured in the opening moments of the attack on May 12. Records also indicate the 10th Louisiana's flag was captured at Cold Harbor but I suspect that's an error, as well, and it more likely was seized on May 12.
