According to Art Bergeron's book (Bergeron, Arthur W., Jr. Guide to Louisiana Confederate Military Units 1861-1865. Baton Rouge, LA: Louisiana State University Press, 1989.) William F Ivey was Captain of the Calcasieu Rangers (formed in mid-1863) to hunt deserters, draft evaders and jayhawkers. The Calcasieu Rangers became part of the 6th LA Cavalry (late 1864?) as Company I.

B. F. Carroll, Burrel Mericle, G. Johnson and Joseph Babb were all members of the Calcasieu Rangers and then of Co. I of the 6th Louisiana Cavalry. There is no indication that Captain Ivey was in the 3rd LA Cavalry.

As to Capt. Red Harris, we would need a first name or initial to ID this person. As William Harrison was Colonel of the 6th LA Cavalry, perhaps that is who is meant.

When the Jackson Barracks Adjutant General's Archives reopen (2011?), it would be a very good place for you to look for info on your ancestor. Unfortunately, I do not see him listed in Booth, NPS-CWSS or the NARA-CSR. With the poor records keeping of the last part of the war, however, this doesn't mean that he was not in the 6th LA Cavalry.

Hope this helps
