John B. Larkin, 23 year old Farmer, resident of Rocky Mount, Single, enrolled as a Private in Captain John J. Hodges' Company D, 9th Louisiana Infantry July 7, 1861 at Camp Moore, La., captured at Rappahannock November 7,1863, sent to Point Lookout, Md. prison camp, exchanged March 10, 1864, returned to regiment and present on the August 31, 1864 muster, present for duty March 1, 1865, captured April 7, 1865 near Petersburg, Va., sent to City Point, Va. with transportation furnished from Washington, D. C. to Fredericksburg, Va., listed as a "rebel deserter" **

** I believe Federal forces termed any straggler they picked up at this point in the war as "deserters."
