Re: Col. Gustavus A. Breaux 30th Louisiana

Hi Bruce,

Does your additional information shed any light on the composition of his 2nd brigade while at Port Hudson? There was a solitary reference in his CSR as follows:

Port Hudson
Dec. 8, 1862
HQ 2nd brigade
Special Order #30 of 2nd brigade [the order had to do with a board of survey]
[issued by] Breaux of 30th Louisiana, Colonel commanding brigade.

Also, the Official Records provides an abstract for Port Hudson for the month of December, 1862, that lists "five brigades" without any further descriptive information.

This abstract is titled Organization of the troops in the Dept of Miss & East La, commanded by Lt Gen Pemberton
...
...
3rd Military Dist

1st Bgde.
2nd Bgde.
3rd Bgde.
4th Bgde.
5th Bgde.
1st Ala Reg’t.
Daigre's La Cav (one co).
Hughes' Cav (Bn).
Jones' Cav (one co).
Garland's P R (Bn).
12th La Bn (arty).
English's co (arty).
Boone's Btry (light arty).
Fenner's Btry (light arty).
Withers' Btry (light arty).
Baton Rouge forces.
Camp Moore forces
Ponchatoula forces.

I am piecing together the composition of these "five brigades," but only have a couple of references specific to the "2nd brigade."
