Late in the Battle of Baton Rouge the Confederates were pushing the Yankees toward the river. Tfhe 7th Vermont moved back through their camp which was at the eastern edge of the penitentiary. They sheltered in a ravine which was a taributary of Bayou Gras and ran almost parallel to 13th Street. Testimony says this was "near the gas works". Does anyone know where the gas works was located in 1862? Thanks TR
