Don, While I don't have the volume, I'd bet "Photography in New Orleans: The Early Years , 1840-1865" by Margaret Smith(LSU Press, 1982) might have info on Kilbourne. The book gives details on 211 artists active between 1840 and 1870. Simply, have your library obtain the work through interlibrary loan.

Kilbourne does not appear in John Craig's compendium of daguerreian artists (http://craigcamera.com ), so he likely began his trade in BR late in the 1850's or early 1860's.
