Re: Return of the Flag of the 30th Louisiana

Alan,
A rather long article appears in the New Orleans Times-Democrat of October 10, 1900 describing the ceremonies associated with the return of this flag. Another source seems to be the Minutes of a October
1900 meeting of the Association of the Army of Tennessee.
The flag itself was contracted for or made by the ladies of Mobile.It was presented to the Regiment on
May 10, 1864. I have copies of both the presentation and acceptance speeches.
The known casualties among the Color Guard at Ezra Church are as follows;
Color-Sgt. Leopoldo Trinchieri, Co. D, wounded "severely" (appointed Ensign in December 1864)
Color-Corp. Manuel Joseph Labin, Co. E, wounded "severely"
Color-Corp. Philogene Belsom, Co. C, wounded

The flag survives today in the Collections of Confederate Memorial Hall of New Orleans.
I urge everyone to support this fine institution. Its location across the street from the
WW2 Museum lends itself to a very worthwhile day-trip to New Orleans.
