The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Homer, yes, I'm still in West Monroe teaching at ULM (hopefully, I'll still have a job after the dust settles on this budget mess). I have not checked the Baton Rouge papers. I am using a site called NewspaperARCHIVE.com It costs approximately $50/year to join but gives you access to hundreds of newspapers worldwide. For Louisiana, however, they only have the Ruston, Lafayette, and Lake Charles papers. The Lafayette paper goes back to the 1870s. The site is quite useful and has a pretty good search engine. You can type in names, words, etc. and either specific dates or range of years and it will search the papers for those words. I haven't invested a lot of time on it but have found several good stories. Surprisingly I found some on the Tigers in Northern newspapers during the war.
