The Louisiana in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Robert Claiborne Pointe Coupee soldier

Thats very interesting indeed! I've seen occupations a "gentlemen" before on census records but never in the military papers.

I have one other question you may Be able to help me with, Mr. Martin, or maybe someone else on the forum. James R. Arnold's book "Grant Wins The War: Decision at Vicksburg" on pg. 358 cites a source called the L.B. Claiborne papers. It gives no further info to document where these papers are located other than Civil War Times Illustrated Collection: The Vicksburg Campaign. How would someone go about finding such a collection or the availability of searching it. It would be very fascinating to read some of these letters enjoying the wealth they contain, and possibly give an idea of what happend with this Robert.

I have contacted CW TIMES Illustrated editorial dept, and lets just say I'm not holding my breath on a call back.

Thank you Sir for all your help
Erik
